God's Word For Today
God Holds the Future
Read Acts 20:2 through 21:16
Some Christians hesitate to move forward with thier lives, crippled by fear of what the future may hold. The “what-ifs” prevent them from enjoying God’s blessings in their work, their family, and and their spiritual life. In contrast, the apostle Paul moved forward despite uncertainty: “Compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there” (Acts 20:22). He did know, however, that his experience would include prison and other hardships.
Doing right did not guarantee Paul a trouble-free life, week, or day. He steadfastly preached the gospel, followed the Holy Spirit’s leading, and left the outcome to God.
Think back over the past five years. Would you have had the courage to move forward if you knew all that was going to happen? In His wisdom, God does not allow us to see the future. We may have some ideas about what the future holds and plan accordingly, but we have no certainty. If we cling to God’s promises and obey the Holy Spirit’s leading, what we can know is that God will give us strength for whatever lies ahead, even when it seems bad from our limited perspective.
Prayer Suggestion: Lord God, grant me faith to trust and obey, even when hardship may be ahead.
